Effective Therapeutic Support for Asylum Seekers

Understanding Refugee and Asylum Seeker Mental Health” provides a comprehensive exploration of the mental health challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers. Through this course, participants will gain insights into the unique stressors and traumas experienced by individuals forced to flee their homes, seeking refuge in unfamiliar environments.

A warm welcome!

This online course is designed for learners with little or no knowledge of the UK’s asylum process and the issues that people seeking asylum in the UK face.

In this short film, Solace CEO Kathryn Ashworth welcomes you to the course

It is the second in our series of eLearning courses, following on from Understanding Refugee and Asylum Seeker Mental Health and Wellbeing, which offers an overview of the global and UK refugee context along with a range of relevant factors impacting the lives of asylum seekers and refugees.

If you do not have a foundation level of understanding of the background of the asylum process in the UK and implications for those in that system, then you will need to complete course 1 before you proceed.

How the course works

This is a self guided course made up of 9 modules. The modules are of varying length. Watch the films at your own pace – for a comprehensive experience we recommend working through the modules in order. You can open the main menu at any time by clicking the three lines in the top left corner in the orange bar.

After you have watched the video tutorial, the lessons that follow highlight some key points made by the presenter. These are intended to be:

  • helpful for those who learn best though written content.
  • a point of reference should you need to revisit or quote the information.
  • enable you to absorb and retain the learning.

Be challenged

We hope that you will approach these modules with an open mind. Be ready to be challenged, and recognise that the material presented is based on what has worked for us – an organisation that has supported asylum seekers and refugees for over 15 years. Our demonstrable results have set Solace out as sector experts and we are very excited to have the opportunity to share this expertise with you.‍ We ourselves keep an open mind and continue to learn.
